It's time for a big Halloween party, on the cheap.

Minor changes- GREAT NEWS!

We've got an upgrade of space! We've got a brand new location for the party- it's right off the Addison Brown Line, at TM Studios, 1800 W. Cornelia Avenue. There's parking in front of the building, and we can party all night, baby. There will be signs up on the front door of the building (Ravenswood side), so you can find the party. Good times.

To get to the TM Studios, you take the Brown line to Addison, make a left out of the station, a right onto Ravenswood, just before the Metra train tracks, and walk down two blocks. The building will be on your right, and you'll see plenty of signs and lights and whatnot. See you there!

Please don't come to Park Place, as the party room there is canceled, and they won't let you in. Join us down the road a little ways at the TM Studios, for our excellent party! Come one, come all!

It's expensive as hell to go to some of these bar parties for Halloween, then you're still dropping money for costume and drinks. Forget that nonsense. Come out to the TM Studios, bring your own booze to add to the mix (we'll have some, but will need more, for proper partying. Snacks and mixers are welcome, too), and if you'd like to throw in a couple bucks to help cover the cost of the room rental, cool. If not, that's cool, too- we know money's tight all over. Buck the recession and come hang out with us. We'll have music, dancing, drinks, some food, and lots more.

Only members of this Group can view the location for this Meetup

VERY last minute event! How spontaneous are you? I just got the crazy idea to see Studs Terkel's Not Working at Second City E.T.C. stage tomorrow, 7 PM show. This is very short notice I realize, but I figured I would give it a shot. Tickets are $20, general admission. Call 312-337-3992 for tickets, $2 service charge/order. Don't order online, it's much more expensive. No service charge if you buy in person, but of course that takes extra time. Call ASAP, this could sell out soon. You must say you are with me, Ellen Goodman, and give order # E231057, so they can add your ticket to my order so we can sit together. Tix are available at hottix for $17.25, so you save $4.75. http://www.ticketmast...
If you get hottix, call Second City anyway to tell them you are with the group.

RSVP AFTER buying your ticket, so that I know everyone signed up has a ticket. This show is supposed to be hilarious and I've wanted to see it for a while. This is my last chance before the end of the year.

Meet at box office (second floor) at 6:30 to pick up tickets. We will depart for the theater at 6:45. We will get food and/or drinks afterward if there is interest. I'm really looking forward to this--I hope at least a few people can manage to join me. Call 773-818-1343 if you are running late, can't find us, or have questions. Hope to see you there!

And They Came to Chicago is a documentary about the Italian-American experience in Chicago. Originally broadcast on WTTW in 2007 and narrated by Chicago's own Joe Mantegna, And They Came to Chicago chronicles 150 years of Chicago's Italian American history. Here is the description from the movie's website:

And They Came to Chicago traces the 150-year history of Italian settlement in Chicago, from early arrivals who laid the foundation for burgeoning Italian enclaves to the Italian American contribution to politics and labor, the arts and culture. Combining rare historical footage and photographs, interviews with prominent Italian Americans, authors, historians, and individuals who came of age in Chicago’s Little Italies, And They Came To Chicago journeys to the heart of one of the city’s most vibrant, and misunderstood, communities for an unforgettable look at Chicago’s Italian American legacy.

Here is the website:
http://www.italiansofchicago.com/index.html

The movie starts at 1:30 at the Chicago History Museum. We will meet at 1:00 at the bench across from the museum box office. Movie is included with museum admission, which is $14, free for members. Free passes might be available at the Chicago Public Library. Pay at the door, not in advance. The Chicago History Museum is my favorite place in Chicago, so get your money's worth and explore the museum while you're there. It opens at 12, so feel free to get there early to check out the exhibits. The movie should end around 3. We can stay and explore the museum, but I need to leave around 6:00 for another obligation. So we will get early dinner around 4:30 at Orso's Restaurant http://www.orsosrestaurant.com/ if there is interest. Please indicate if you are planning to go to dinner when you RSVP so I can make a reservation.

Hello, all-
Shameless plug time. I've not posted a show in a while, so here's the latest. I'm performing with Theatre Momentum in our improvised plays over at the Greenhouse Theater Center, and can get everyone some two-for-one tickets! Check it out:

Theatre Momentum presents our latest shows:
Status and The Steps

Status:
In an era of instant communication, it's easy to update everyone we know about how our lives are going at any given second.
Do we need to be honest?
Do we need to be funny?
Does it help us to change our "Status"?

The Steps:
The Steps explores the absurd, sweet, and sometimes comical nature of self-help programs, and the arbitrary and sometimes darkly wise nature of the rules of them.

Casts:
Status:
Kannan Arumugam, Peter Athans, Heather Beeman, Tim Dunn, Megan Farris, Kristen Parise, Tony Rielage (me!), Harz Sondericker
Directed by Micky Govern

The Steps
Len Foote, George Hubbard, Alexis Martino, Kathleen O'Shaughnessy, Jon Sales, Susan Steinke, Scott Whitehair, Maureen Winston
Directed by Regan Davis

Shows are Thursdays at 8 PM, and Fridays and Saturdays at 8:30 PM
August 13-September 12
Tickets are $12 Thursdays, $14 Fridays/Saturdays.

All shows take place at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave, Downstairs Studio.

You can buy tickets online here, or via phone at 773-404-7336, or in person at the box office.

Special ticket deals, though, gang- if you use the code "TWOFOR1", you can get two tickets for the price of one! Or, you can use the code "CHEAPSKATE" and get $2 off your ticket. Take your pick- both are a great deal! Oh, and those codes are good for any night of the shows, so even if you can't make it out for this event, feel free to use the discounts anytime.

Oh, and I put the meeting time at 7:30, so I can find everyone beforehand. Doors open at 7:45, show starts at 8.

Hope you can make it out, and maybe join the cast afterward for a drink at one of the next-door bars. See you Thursday!

Save the date--it's the 3rd annual Chicago Dancing Festival! Last year's was amazing, this year it should be even better. Free dance performance at Pritzker Pavilion with about 8 different companies from all over the country in a celebration of American dance. See website for full lineup.

Show starts at 7:30. Meet at 6:00 outside the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St. (Washington St. side), and we will depart for the Pavilion at 6:15. We will be sitting in the actual seats, not the lawn, in order to see, and it will definitely fill up quickly. Last year they had to turn people away, even from the lawn! Please call 773-818-1343 if you are running late, can't find us, or have questions, as we will not save seats unless we know for sure to expect you. Please do not call after show starts at 7:30. Eat beforehand or bring food with you, there is a cafe near the entrance to the Pavilion.

Celebrate Independence Day at the first-ever Grant Park Orchestra 4th of July Concert at Pritzker Pavilion! Usually it is on the 3rd of July at Petrillo Band Shell in Grant Park, but this year they are having the Army Band instead on the 3rd so the orchestra is playing on the 4th at Pritzker Pavilion, 1:30 showtime. Should be a great concert.
http://www.grantparkmusicfestival.com/2009-season/independence-day-in-millenium-park

This is a very patriotic concert--all the traditional favorites and a tap dancer too! Selections include The Star Spangled Banner, Stars and Stripes Forever, 1812 Overture, Battle Hymn of the Republic, America the Beautiful, Fanfare for the Common Man, and others. We'll be sitting on the lawn for this one--what's the 4th without a traditional picnic? Meet outside Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St. (Washington St. side), at 11:30, we will depart for the Pavilion at 11:45. Bring a picnic and a blanket and/or chair to sit on. There is also a cafe near the Pavilion entrance. If you arrive after 11:45, go straight to the Pavilion lawn and look for a red blanket, but you maximize the fun if you get there on time. Call 773-818-1343 if you can't find us, are running late, or have questions. I will turn off my phone when the show starts at 1:30. Hope to see you there!

Hello, all!
Okay, it's been way too long since I posted anything, much less a party. I had an idea that I thought might be a touch unique and figured it would be a great event.

Let's have a party! Not just any party, but a costume party. There's Christmas in July celebrations, why not Halloween in June? I figure, the weather's better for costumes, and Halloween's one of my favorite holidays, anyhow.

All this will go down at Matilda, a really great bar in Lakeview. They've given us their entire back room for the event, till 11 PM- then they have to open it to the public. To keep it "private" (they're treating this like a "fundraiser" party for meetup) we have to charge a cover. It'll be just $3 to get in, unless you're in costume! If you're in a costume (and that's up to the bouncer's discretion), then you get in for FREE!

We'll have drink discounts at the bar, lots of great music, and we'll have a Best Costume Contest around 10:30, with some fun prizes for everyone. Get dressed up and party, people!

I know, I know, where can I get a costume this time of year? Glad you asked. Aside from taking a look in your closet or hitting the thrift stores/dollar stores, here's a few places you can check out:

Ragstock
The Alley
Party City
Card and Party Giant
Chicago Costume Company
Beatnix
Uncle Fun

That's the story, everyone. Please feel free to promote this on your facebook, myspace, emails, whatever. The more, the merrier! See you there!

-Tony
