The entire community is invited and challenged to collect bags of non-perishable food for the Aurora Interchurch Task Force. Interchurch has experienced a tremendous increase in demand for services this year, but a decrease in donations of non-perishable food. Please hold mini-drives to collect food items in your own household, neighborhood, workplace and/or volunteer groups. You can drop off non-perishable food items to three businesses On Havana Street now through the morning of January 9, 2009:

Suss Buick Pontiac GMC at 1301 So Havana Street
Dumitri's Restaurant at 1911 So Havana Street
Budget Car Sales at 835 So Havana Street

On the morning of January 9, I will be picking the food up from the three locations listed above and delivering it to the Aurora Interchurch Task Force at 1553 Clinton at 11 a.m. You can also bring any non-perishable food items you have collected to Interchurch that morning. The media will be on hand at Interchurch at 11 a.m. to take pictures of groups delivering their food items. You are invited to join the On Havana Street MeetUp Members at Interchurch at 11 a.m. on January 9 to help unload the van and to be in our group photo.

This event is being done in honor of MLK Day and the National Day of Service, which will be observed ten days later on January 19. The event was the idea of one of our neighborhood organizations On Havana Street, Village East, and their "Change is Coming" group. Please join us to help replenish the food bank after the Holiday season. Thank you!
