Watch for Secret Santas bearing gifts On Havana Street! On Saturday, November 28, between the hours of noon and 5 p.m., four Santas will stroll through The Gardens on Havana, strip malls, restaurants and car dealerships On Havana Street from 6th Avenue to Dartmouth, spreading the holiday cheer and distributing Secret Santa Gifts to unsuspecting shoppers. Secret Santa gifts will include over 500 gift certificates from various On Havana Street Merchants, candy canes and special On Havana Street M&Ms, and other great gifts. This is our merchants' way of thanking you for shopping On Havana Street! The merchants will also be holding special Black Friday Weekend sales.

During November and December, you can enter a drawing to win $1,000 in shopping sprees, too. No purchase is necessary. On November 30, the $500 shopping spree will be given away, then on December 7 and December 21 there will be drawings for $250 shopping sprees, for a total of $1,000! Please bring your ideas and join us in a public visioning workshop about redevelopment of the old Fan Fare Building and Havana North (commercial properties between Bayaud and 6th Avenue along Havana). You all know the area--that ugly bubble building at 3rd & Havana that is surrounded by barbed wire and has been vacant and deteriorating for over 25 years! The workshop is Thursday night, October 22, 6-8 p.m., at the Aurora Municipal Center, 15151 E Alameda Avenue (NW corner of Alameda and Chambers) on the first floor in the City Council Chambers.

This is the first of three public workshops. Come hear about the redevelopment feasibility study that was completed earlier this year and about the Havana District Design Concepts Plan that designates this area as an, "activity center." We will be discussing Blight Studies and Urban Renewal Areas as tools to assist with redevelopment of the area. What should become of the Fan Fare building--scrape it or attempt to save it as an Historic Landmark? What do you want in the area--mixed use development including some nicer restaurants? How about the possibility of a recreation center or public gathering place for an expanded Farmers' Market and festivals? This is a hands-on workshop where you will be shown maps and asked to envision what the area should look like in the future. We need input from our On Havana Street meet-up group members, since this is our community and our chance to guide redevelopment of the area. Please come!

Are you stuck in a rut preparing the same old dinners! Our International Market owners will be sharing their favorite recipes from their native lands, offering up ethnic food samples for tasting, and giving you tips on how to prepare the foods for your own family. Stop in to the markets from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, for a true cultural experience! All of the ingredients used in the ethnic recipes will be available for purchase at the markets. The tastings and unique cultural experience is free! No admission charge. Markets include:

Please join us as we officially dedicate the beautiful new Lisa Strawn Memorial Rose Garden at The Gardens on Havana (former Buckingham Square Mall) on Saturday evening, Aug 29 at 7 p.m. Enjoy music by the Aurora Symphony Orchestra's Brass Quintet, free ice cream sundaes provided by Baskin Robbins, samples of food from Qdoba Mexican Grill and Noodles & Co, rose garden tours conducted by The Denver Rose Society, and tours of The Gardens on Havana at dusk to see and experience the lovely lighting at the rose garden, the water fountain and along main street at the new center. The music, ice cream, food samples and tours are free.

Come early for dinner as Noodles & Co is donating 25% of the sales from dinners in their restaurant at The Gardens on Havana from 5-9 p.m. on August 29 to the Aurora Symphony as a fund-raiser.

The Aurora Farmers' Market is back at the Fan Fair Site, 3rd & Havana, for another season. It sets up every Tuesday from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Our 2009 Vendors include Domenico Farms, Forte Farms, Hutchison Market, Mazzotti Farms & Greenhouse, Body by Lynn (natural bath products), Dog Father, J&J Salsa, New Era Distributing Copany, Olde Westport Spices & Trading Company, Peachtree (pickled relishes, jarred preserves and honey), Rocky Mountain Rice Company, Snow Creek Ranch Gourmet Black Angus Beef, Space Monkey Skin Care and Styria Bakery. The market runs every Tuesday through the end of October.
